I was born in Texas, and grew up in Chula Vista, CA in a Naval housing project. As providence would have it, a Boys' Club was literally in our backyard. The gym coach, Forbes Anderson, took my brother and me under his wings. He inspired and molded us into world class wrestlers. His mentorship changed our lives completely. In high school, I was captain of the football team, honor student, class president, married my Homecoming Queen sweetheart, and wrestling paid for my college education. After college, I wanted to pay it forward, so I ran the Boys' Club in La Habra, CA where I developed a program for hyperkinetic ADD children called Any Boy Can. We won the Disneyland Freedom Foundation Award and Boys Clubs of America's top Awards including "Program of the Decade" in Washington DC. This honor contributed to La Habra winning an All-American City Award.
Eventually, my family got tired of the traffic, the smog and CA politics. We longed for the open outdoors, so my wife, beautiful daughter and I moved to Oregon. We bought a house on the river in a little town in Mapleton. I got a job working for Don Bybee of Chartham Health Care that owned facilities in five states including Florence Care Center nearby. My supervisor and mentor Bob Decker asked me to develop a new government funded program for the mentally challenged and developmentally disabled in Florence, Oregon. We became one of the top private providers of Title XIX Handicap Programs in the US and won several awards in three states. As it turned out, Don made me a partner in Chartham.
We sold the company for $70 mm to Southmark Heritage, and overnight I became a millionaire at age 40. Eventually, I started my own company, Touchstone Health Care.
In this same period, I wrote a book about my time with the ADD kids called Help Is on The Way. I created a franchise program for fitness guru Covert Bailey (Fit or Fat) and opened the first Fit or Fat Nutrition and Fitness Center called Compu-Fit. My wife and I sold it to the Courthouse Fitness Centers in Salem.
I also qualified for the Boston Marathon and was selected by Athletes United for Peace to run in the Moscow International Peace Marathon. I have run 20 marathons since, including four Boston Marathons,
Thereafter, I retired to Palm Springs, CA to help my brother and sister-in-law market their 4-Star Private Villa Management business including Sundance Villas. All 19 Villas had their own pool and Jacuzzi with an incredible view of the mountains. Each Villa was owned by a Celebrity. I bought Smokey and the Bandit from the Producer of the movie by the same name. My neighbors were Oscar winning producers, actors and actresses, songwriters, top hoteliers, and studio moguls. Every weekend there were movie and TV moguls cutting deals. There were actors, and celebrities laying in the sun all day and partying all night.
I wa now in the MOVIE and TV MAKING busines, reaing money for Oscar winning producers. They were the Godfathers of Movie Making and taught me the business.
I invited the owner of Ujena Swimwear Catalog, Bob Anderson, to shoot his swimsuit models at Sundance. He was a genius. He sold Runner's World for $18 million to start up Ujena, which became one of the largest mail order companies in the world. We were both marathon runners, so we hit it off. He schooled me in the swimsuit business, so with new connections, I got Pamela Anderson for the cover and published Swimsuit Illustrated magazine. It was a hit on the newsstands, and my life changed forever... Again.
To promote Swimsuit Illustrated and create new swimsuit buyers, I staged pageants in the US and the Caribbean. We created a TV show called Swimsuit Illustrated on Location and covered by Inside Edition. Every aspiring model wanted to be on the cover or featured therein. In the mid 90's the swimsuit genre wore off, so I rebranded to fitness with Private Pier magazine, a waterfront lifestyle magazine to help save the oceans. It was still beautiful models in exotic locations, but instead of swimwear, they wore fitwear. One of the locations was Mar-a-Lago. I brought in a top underwater photographer with an incredible presentation for Palm Beach school children, the top underwater painter in the world, and the top fitness models in the world wearing the top Fitwear in the world. It was a major success. It was the first time a group of school children were allowed at Mar-a-Lago.
One week later, I got a call from Trump Resorts and Casinos. At that time, Trump own the rights to Miss America and Miss Universe, but he wanted his own Beauty Pageant, so I created the Trump Style International Model Search for the next six years. In the first two years, the casinos made over $3 million in profit. Not to be out done, MGM Resort Casino and other top Resort Casinos followed suit. I published a magazine called theONE Magazine, and I was officially in the Gaming, Glamour business until the Covid-19 Pandemic.
